TikTok, the popular social media platform known for its short-form videos, has taken the world by storm. While it may seem like a platform primarily for entertainment, it can also be a valuable tool for businesses, including accounting firms.

Here are some ways that TikTok can help accounting firms:

  1. Marketing and Branding: TikTok can be used to create engaging and entertaining content that can help promote the accounting firm's brand and services. Accountants can showcase their expertise and knowledge in finance, tax, and accounting through short videos, helping to build trust and credibility with potential clients.
  1. Education and Awareness: TikTok can also be used to educate people about accounting concepts and financial literacy. By creating short, informative videos, accounting firms can help demystify complex financial topics and increase awareness among their audience.
  1. Recruiting: TikTok can be a valuable tool for accounting firms looking to attract and recruit new talent. By showcasing the firm's culture and values, as well as the benefits of working in the accounting industry, firms can attract candidates who are passionate about finance and accounting.
  1. Building Community: TikTok provides an opportunity for accounting firms to connect with their clients and potential clients on a more personal level. By sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the firm's operations and introducing team members, accounting firms can create a sense of community and build stronger relationships with their audience.
  1. Staying Relevant: As more and more people turn to social media for information and entertainment, it's important for accounting firms to stay relevant and engage with their audience where they are. TikTok is a platform that is currently seeing explosive growth, making it a valuable addition to any accounting firm's social media strategy.

Of course, as with any social media platform, it's important to use TikTok responsibly and effectively. Accounting firms should be mindful of the content they create, ensuring that it aligns with their brand and values. They should also be careful to avoid any misinformation or misleading content that could harm their reputation or that of their clients.

‍
Here are some best practices for tax and accounting firms that are eager to get started on TikTok:

‍

  1. Provide value - People turn to TikTok for life hacks and tips. Your videos need to provide value or viewers won’t follow along.
  2. Keep it short and sweet - TikTok business videos that are 10 to 15 seconds long tend to perform best.
  3. Keep your eye on trends - Every niche on TikTok has trending topics and trending audio. Take note of what others in the personal finance space are doing to go viral and create similar (but not identical) content. Trends change fast, though, so if you find something unique that works for you and resonates with your audience, stick with it!
  4. Engage, engage, engage - The best way to build a following on any social media platform is to engage with your audience. Use a CTA in your caption and when people comment, comment back! This encourages community.
  5. Create an offer - As a tax professional, your goal on TikTok is ultimately to secure new clients and increase visibility for your firm. Create an offer that is exclusive to your followers (i.e. a discounted tax preparation rate) to encourage people to get off the app and onto your website.
  6. Consider collabs - Collaborating with other brands and content creators is a great way to get your name out there on social media. Often, all you need to do is ask in order to secure a collab. Consider talking to local small businesses you’ve previously worked with or personal finance influencers who live in your area.
  7. Get on camera - TikTok’s algorithm is designed to promote videos with faces front and center, so don’t be afraid to get on camera (or have someone in your office be the face of your firm!) We’re providing you with a greenscreen background, so you should be set for success.
