Accountant Social Media Marketing Tip – Should You Boost Your Facebook Posts?

January 21, 2015

Facebook has revealed that any update posted by your page will only reach 3-5% of your fans. This means if you have 1000 fans, you will only reach 30 to 50 of them through organic (not paid for) reach. That leaves tax accountants with few choices to engage a bigger audience on Facebook but to promote or boost posts.

If you had asked me last year whether boosting a post was a good idea, I would have responded “absolutely not.” Our results have shown likes, but from questionable sources that did not fit our target audiences.

What has changed is that Facebook has tweaked its targeting algorithm. It is now smarterand may have become a better way to engage a larger audience.

That being said, you should boost your Facebook post only if…

  • You have been successful with boosting in the past with strong content main goal is to drive brand awareness and engagement, not new clients
  • You have used the target tool to narrow down the audience to those who would matter most
  • You have posted an image, quote or breaking news that is shareable
  • That you are committed to building your online reputation over years, not days·
  • You have been successful with boosting in the past with strong content
